Ushuaia & Tierra del Fuego NP

We are sitting up in bed with a cup of tea enjoying the 180 degree views over the Beagle Channel ringed by snow-capped mountains. The views are sensational in the late afternoon light.

We arrived in Ushuaia this morning. This is the capital city of the province of Tierra del Fuego and the Antarctic. It is located on the Beagle Channel & surrounded by the Martial Mountain range. The first inhabitants were hunters & collectors such as the Selk'nam & Haush; also the Yámanas & Kawesqar.

On our early arrival at our divine B&B just out of town, we were offered a nice breakfast before we set off to Tierra del Fuego National Park to walk the Senda Costera which is a coastal walk of about 8 kms (although by day's end, My Friend tells me we have walked almost 17 kms - so go figure!).

The staff organised for the local bus to come by & pick us up to take us into town to meet up with the bus going out the 20 kms to the parque. The weather was very cool indeed so we were well dressed in our woollen tops, parks, scarf, gloves; nevertheless, the sun shone intermittently, making it a lovely day for walking & the views were simply stunning.

Ushuaia (pop. about 42,000) - the southernmost city in the world! - and the capital of Tierra del Fuego province, nearly 3,500km from Buenos Aires, is located between the Beagle Channel and Martiales Mountain Range.

As I finish this blog, it is almost 8:30 p.m. & it is still very light. The views are wonderful.
